Project Portfolio & Resource Management
Understand capacity, utilization and forecast demand
Utilization follows one active method: task dates, project allocations, or estimated task effort. It never reports actual time worked. The allocation-specific formulas below remain unchanged.
Steps to follow
- 1
Weekly project capacity is the workweek multiplied by project availability. The project-allocation method uses inclusive UTC Monday–Friday dates without holiday exclusions. Approved availability exceptions and resource start dates affect available hours.
- 2
Confirmed allocations and allocations not requiring approval are committed hours. Proposed hours remain pending; projected utilization assumes approval. Rejected allocations are excluded.
- 3
Remaining capacity is available capacity minus committed hours. Utilization divides committed hours by available hours. Shared allocations are not counted twice. Forecast demand comes from separately entered demand overlapping the period.
- 4
Historical values are recalculated from available records and settings. Schedule working calendars affect task dates; task methods also apply calendar holidays to capacity, while the project-allocation method remains unchanged.
