Project Decisions: outcomes, rationale and notes
Record important project decisions and why they were made. This does not grant formal approval or automatically change project plans.
Steps to follow
- 1
Open a PMO or departmental project, then select Decisions. This optional record can track a decision needed or one already made.
- 2
Authorized project PMs and Managers create and edit entries. Choose Decided to record an existing decision directly; outcome, rationale and actual decision date are required.
- 3
Select the decision-maker from active resources visible in the shared resource directory. Existing recorded names remain until explicitly replaced. Recorded by is the signed-in person who entered it. Naming a decision-maker does not grant access or editing rights.
- 4
Only Pending decisions with a target date before today are overdue. Dates are calendar dates, not schedule durations. Deferred and Decided entries are not overdue.
- 5
PMs, Managers and Contributors may add notes where project access permits. Guests/Viewers are read-only. Notes retain author and timestamp; edits appear in activity history.
- 6
Supporting documents are linked from the existing project Documents library and remain subject to its permissions. No duplicate file storage, notifications, approval workflow or changes to schedules, baselines, risks, allocations or health.
